A two hour experience including live performance from a canal boat, a boat trip and cemetery tour at Kensal Green Cemetery
While the government’s “Rule of 6” effectively bans audiences at Harlesden’s Mary Seacole Memorial Park this weekend, no such prohibition exists on the adjacent Mitre Bridge, where ticket holders for the “World’s Smallest Canal Boat Festival” can observe social distancing while enjoying music and theatre on a floating stage whilst awaiting their tour of Kensal Green Cemetery.
Created shortly after completion of the canal which forms its southern boundary, Kensal Green, the greatest of London’s “Magnificent 7” cemeteries, has been a resting place for English notables, including hundreds of thespians, since the early 19th Century.
Actors practiced in immersive theatre will guide ticket holders in the cemetery and maintain social distancing on Mitre Bridge during performances by Zimbabwean blues sensation Amy and the Calamities, Bluegrass masters Copper Viper, and short theatrical works on sustainability, veganism and animal ethics provided by Patch Plays.
This beachhead for culture and education in the heart of Industrial West London, is sponsored by Bards on Boats, Ltd., and Your Canal Boat CIC to demonstrate that London’s canals can be as vital for Covid-19 era performance as they were for 19th Century transportation.
